Hitchin Lavender Fields Session

Hertfordshire Family Photographer

This was actually one of my last sessions from last summer and one of my favourites. We had such a lovely morning at Hitchin Lavender Fields. Its just over an hours drive from Northampton but we arrived early to beat the crowds and avoid the harsh midday sun. At times it was unavoidable, especially when you are in an open field with nowhere to shelter from the sun! But we worked around it, the sun was in and out of the clouds so we worked fast when we could.

The family were so well co-ordinated, mum sent me her outfit ideas prior to the session and I advised to go with the more romantic looking dress that suits the location and the colours also complimented the lavender, dad co-ordinated his shirt with Natasha’s dress and the children opted for fresh white t-shirts to keep it clean. I always advise against bright bold stripes or prints so they are not taking the focus away from the family.

The session was mid August and the lavender season was coming to an end, at this time the lavender is starting to lose its colour so I had to pump it up considerably in photoshop post shoot. This was no hardship as I always enhance my outdoor sessions in photoshop, I love colour and like to create an images that you can escape into, an almost dreamlike reality. Sophia plays the ukulele and wanted to bring it along to the session, it was lovely listening to her play and photographing her doing something she loves, she has a real talent for it.

If you are interested in a lavender fields session with me please contact me for more details of when I’ll be hosting them, usually around July time. Alternatively, please keep an eye on my social media accounts and I’ll be releasing dates in good time. The lavender fields are currently closed until further notice, fingers crossed they will be open again next summer!
